EDIT 5 + Eat Sydney Italian

Drop me off in Italy and I'll only see you when you come to visit! This is pretty much how I feel about life and especially food. We are very lucky to have a lot of great Italian restaurants in Sydney that are run by Italians and focus on traditional Italian cooking with a unique way of making each ingredient dance around your taste buds.

Kaz and I have dinned at so many and these are our Edit 5 + of the best Italian restaurants in Sydney. Steph x

Cafe Sopra | This is the restaurant arm of our favourite Italian specialist grocer Fratelli Fresh. It's run by owner and friend Barry McDonald.

Fratelli Fresh and Cafe Sopra have been close to my heart for years watching them grow and evolve into a Sydney favourite and a special place to shop and dine with my family.

With a no bookings policy and Italian food enthusiasts coming in and out all day, you might have to wait for a table, but it will be well worth it. Stay patient and browse the grocer getting inspiration for your next meal.

The interiors are minimal and relaxed with not too many tables and a huge blackboard food menu, loaded with fresh salads, homemade pastas, cured meats and fish.

The Potts Point location is my favourite with some outdoor seating where you can watch the craziness of Macleay Street, Potts Point pass you by as you enjoy.

Favourite Dishes: Linguine with Lemon, Chilli & Pangrattato, Shaved Baby Cabbage with Reggiano & Aged Balsamic and always a side of Zucchini Flowers stuffed with 5 Italian cheeses.

Cafe Sopra locations:  52 Mitchell Road, Alexandria (Cnr Mitchell Road and Buckland Street), 81 Macleay Street, Potts Point,  Shop 8, 16 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay & 11 Bridge Street, Sydney

Mantecato | Located in Balmain's, White Bay, Mantecato Risotteria is a favourite of ours to indulge in classic Italian food and wine.

Since opening up earlier this year, I have actually lost count of how many times we have been here and pretty much tried everything on the menu with help of friends and family.

The interiors are fun and casual with lots of little details from the candles holders to the reclaimed timer boxes mounted to the wall.

Price: $$

Favourite Dishes: Beetroot Risotto w/ fossa cheese & toasted sesame seeds, Handmade Ravioli w/ ricotta cheese & spinach, topped with butter & sage and the ultimate treat for dessert is ordering both the Chocolate Cake with a Nutella 'bleeding' heart w/ vanilla custard ice cream and the house made tiramisu.

Location: 129/85 Reynolds St, Balmain, Sydney NSW 2041, 9810 9125

A Tavola | Established in Darlinghurst in 2007 by chef and owner Eugenio Maiale this is one of the best places to go for authentic homemade pasta. Growing up in Paddington, A Tavola has been a family favourite for many years where we have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and a couple of valentines days.

Last year a new redevelopment of The Hub in Bondi Beach opened with A Tavola launching their second Sydney location.

The Bondi and Darlinghurst interiors are all about the oversized Tom Dixon Copper pendants and long tables. You need make a reservation at both locations and bring your appetite!

Price: $$$

Favourite Dishes: Baked olives, Salad of Mushroom, Zucchini, Eggplant and Balsamic and one of the daily pasta specials.

Location: The Hub, Shop 2 / 75-79 Hall Street, Bondi NSW 2026,  02 9130 1246. 348 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst NSW 2010, 02 9331 7871

Fratelli Paradiso | Located just down the road from Cafe Sopra in Potts Point I love to go here for a later afternoon slice of pizza or some fresh pastries and a takeaway coffee.

This Sydney restaurant is so tiny and tucked away its easily missed if you don't know where to look.

Location: 12 - 16 Challis Ave, Potts Point, NSW 2011, 02 9357 1744

Da Orazio | The home of the pizza oven. Located just down stairs from A Tavola in Bondi, this is family friendly dining at its best. Specialising in homemade pizzas that are naturally risen for 48 hours and cooked the Neapolitan way in a wood-fired brick pizza oven.

We love the white on white interiors with polished concrete floors and the shared style casual dining menu.
